The Diocese of Paterson requires all volunteers and/or employees who have regular contact with children, minors or vulnerable adults be approved to work by completing the following steps:
Step 1 … FIRST, you must complete and sign the Consent and Disclosure Form for an Internet Background Check given to you by your local Child Protection Coordinator. Upon completion, return it to your Local Coordinator.
- You may not volunteer/work until the Background Check is completed by the local parish, school, agency or ministry coordinator and we have documentation that your are clear of a criminal history.
Step 2 … Next, read and sign the
“Code of Pastoral Conduct” acknowledgement. You are accountable for your behavior and must follow the Code of Conduct. The form can be downloaded and printed by clicking on the link listed above. Return the signed and dated acknowledgement form to your Local Coordinator.
… Finally, once you have been cleared through a Background Check, you have 90 days to attend a
Virtus Class – “Protecting God’s Children”.
All clergy, staff, employees and volunteers with regular, consistent contact with children are required to attend VIRTUS Protecting God's Children training as a condition of continued employment, ministry, or volunteer service in the diocese and its parishes, schools, and organizations.
