QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
WHAT EXACTLY IS BASKET BONANZA?
Basket Bonanza is the major
WHEN AND WHERE IS BASKET BONANZA HELD?
Basket Bonanza is usually held in March or April in the Parish Center. Event date is listed on the school year calendar.
WHY IS IT CALLED “BASKET BONANZA”?
Most of the auction items are displayed in beautiful baskets. The baskets are placed around the perimeter of the gym. You simply place a ticket in the basket/bag of your choice. The winning tickets are drawn during the evening festivities.
WHERE DO THE BASKETS COME FROM?
As part of out tuition contract, each family is required to donate an item worth at least $100. You may submit an item or a check in lieu of a basket. This is a requirement whether you plan to attend the evening event or not. Some baskets contain more than one item totaling $100 or more. For example, a “Yankee” theme basket may contain tickets to a game, a Yankee T-shirt, autographed items, etc. Some families choose to combine their resources. Some donations are designated as Auction Items and are bid on at the main event. Also, volunteer parents solicit various merchants/companies for additional donations. On the last page of this booklet we have listed a few examples of previous auction items and baskets. After perusing the list you will understand why thousands of people attend our Pre-Sale event.
WHEN DO I NEED TO HAVE MY DONATIONS READY?
Donations are due two months prior to the event. At this time we will be conducting our Basket Turn-In Days. At a specified time you must bring your item/s to the Parish Center. It is preferable to have the basket items assembled and we would only have to put the finishing touches on the basket for display. We need the items in advance for organizational purposes and for the production of a program and an advertisement book. The program book contains a description of each donation. This book will familiarize you with the items you would like to take chances on or bid on at the Basket Bonanza. You will receive further information in the “Basket Bonanza Bible” distributed in December.
WHEN DO I BUY TICKETS TO THE EVENING EVENT?
Tickets are available for purchase on the Basket Turn-In Days. Due to increased enrollment and a 300-person gym capacity, tickets are now available on a first come/first served basis. A waiting list will be created if necessary. Tickets cost approximately $50 per person and include an open bar, a catered dinner, and a sheet of 25 tickets (a value of $25!).
HOW ARE THE CHILDREN INVOLVED?
For the fifth year, the children are creating class projects to be auctioned off at the event. Created under the direction of our volunteer Moms and art teacher, these gifts are always fabulous and a source of pride for every child. Children are also welcome at the daytime Pre-Sale which takes place from 12-4:30pm. You may bring your child, friends, and family to view all the baskets and take chances on their favorites. Winners will be selected that evening and contacted on Sunday morning to pick up their winnings. All the names of people purchasing tickets are recorded for Sunday’s phone calls. This is a great way to get the children, grandparents, friends, etc. to be part of the fun! A very large percentage of our winning tickets have been sold during the Pre-Sale event.
HOW CAN I VOLUNTEER TO HELP?
If you would like to join a sub-committee or volunteer in any capacity, please watch for the meeting announcements or contact the Basket Bonanza Committee Chairs.
